No. 7 Oregon hosts Boise State in a late-night affair this Saturday as the Ducks are looking to bounce back from a sub-par performance in their season-opener against Idaho. Oregon won 24-14 but led by only three points as late as the fourth quarter as the offense struggled to finish drives and put the Vandals away.

They'll certainly need to be tighter against a Boise State squad that put up 56 points last week in an 11-point road win over Georgia Southern. The Broncos are viewed by many as one of the favorites to win the Mountain West and possibly earn an invitation to the College Football Playoff. This game stands to serve as a stiff test for both sides.

"Different than we thought it would look like," Oregon coach Dan Lanning said after the Idaho game. "Great teams are able to to learn from tight matches. This was a tight match, and we didn't create some of the explosive plays I was hoping we could create offensively. Gave up a couple of critical plays on defense. So certainly some things to attack."

Oregon vs. Boise State: Need to know

Boise State has never lost to Oregon: It's a fact that will surely surprise some, but it's true. These teams have met three times and Boise State has won all three meetings. In 2008, the Broncos went into Autzen Stadium and beat the Ducks 37-32, and when the Ducks came to Boise the next season seeking revenge, Boise smothered them 19-8. The latest meeting took place in the 2017 Las Vegas Bowl, 38-28 win for the Broncos.

Boise State RB Ashton Jeanty scored six touchdowns against Georgia Southern: It isn't easy for players outside the Power Four conferences to get into the Heisman conversation, and it's even more difficult when they play running back instead of quarterback. So, the best way for Boise's Ashton Jeanty to get attention is to post ridiculous stat lines, which he did last week. Jeanty finished with 267 yards rushing and six touchdowns against Georgia Southern, averaging an astounding 13.4 yards per carry. He wasn't alone, either! His backup, Sire Gaines, rushed for 110 yards on 12 carries himself.

Oregon is 9-1 in nonconference regular season games since 2021: While Oregon hasn't had success against Boise State in the past, recent history suggests it has a good chance to win here. Not only are the Ducks 9-1 in nonconference regular season games since 2021, but the lone loss came to a Georgia team that went on to win the national title. It was also Dan Lanning's first game in charge of the program.

Oregon vs. Boise State prediction, picks

The Ducks didn't look impressive last week, but they were missing key parts of their offensive line and should be closer to full health in this spot. Plus, how much were the Ducks looking to put on tape with far more difficult opponents to come on the schedule? I don't think this team is nearly as bad as it looked last week and expect a bounce-back performance. The Broncos offense went crazy last week, but it'll be much more difficult to do so against this Oregon defense. We also shouldn't overlook that while Boise was scoring 56 points, it was allowing 45 on defense. Pick: Oregon -19.5
