Here are some Pac-12 links from outlets that regularly cover the conference:

  • Cal released its first fall depth chart on Wednesday with Bryce Treggs emerging from a group of five freshmen wide receivers to earn a starting job and Chris Adcock locking down the right guard spot, Jeff Faraudo of the Bay Area News Group reported.

  • You may never have heard of Utah offensive lineman Carlos Lozano, but he has a considerable distinction among college football players in the state: he’s the biggest at 400-plus pounds, Gordon Monson of the Salt Lake Tribune reported.

  • Here’s an entertaining conversation with Arizona coach Rich Rodriguez from the Tucson Citizen’s Anthony Gimino. Among the topics? Clint Eastwood, going for it on fourth down and golfing with Bobby Bowden.

  • An accidentally leaked FOX schedule has four nationally televised USC games on the docket. This should not surprise you. The Trojans move the meter.

  • Until coach Jon Embree can recruit enough talent, Colorado must outsmart opponents to make up for its shortcomings in other areas, Mark Kiszla of the Denver Post opined.

  • At some point in the coming days Oregon will name its starting quarterback. The life of either sophomore Bryan Bennett or redshirt freshman Marcus Mariota will dramatically change. The new starter will become a face of the team, a prime leader, a major difference maker between winning and losing. The other guy becomes akin to the vice president of the United States: second in line but holding minimal authority, Aaron Fentress of the Oregonian reported.

  • Any major-college football team needing an immediate defensive jolt knew Yuma, Az., was the place to shop last season. That’s why Arizona State turned to National Junior College Athletic Association member Arizona Western for a pair of linebackers (Chris Young and Steffon Martin) to fill its thinnest position, Jeff Metcalfe of the Arizona Republic reported.

  • Washington’s John Timu has moved from outside linebacker to the inside position and will shoulder the responsibility of calling UW's defensive signals and leading the defense, Bob Condotta of the Seattle Times reported.

  • It’s not a great surprise, but Washington State quarterback Jeff Tuel is likely to be named the starter for the season opener, Andrew Nemec of the Moscow-Pullman Daily News, reported.

  • UCLA offensive linemen Jeff Baca, Greg Capella and Alberto Cid returned to the field on Tuesday for the first time since suffering concussions in San Bernardino, Miguel Melendez of the Orange County Register reported. Capella resumed workouts Wednesday but there is no word on when Baca or Cid will resume full duties. Their return will bolster a thin line that lacks game experience – and it will also bolster confidence.

  • Jake Welch liked what he saw in the Oregon State football program so much that he is paying to play. Scholarship money would have essentially erased the in-state tuition costs if Welch had decided to play for a school in his home state of Washington, Kevin Hampton of the Corvallis Gazette-Times reported.

  • Looking for an over/under win totals for each Pac-12 team? Jon Wilner of the San Jose Mercury News has you covered with a big caveat on Cal. Naturally, USC and Oregon top the list.
