Brett Gardner suffers another setback

Outfielder Brett Gardner has suffered a setback in his strained right elbow, and the Yankees don't expect him back until after the All-Star break.

Yankees outfielder Brett Gardner has managed to play only nine games this season, and it appears that figure will remain frozen for a bit longer. Manager Joe Girardi told reporters (including MLB.com's Bryan Hoch) Saturday that Gardner has suffered another setback in recovering from his strained right elbow.

There's no set timetable for Gardner's return, but Girardi told reporters he doesn't expect Gardner back before the All-Star break.

Gardner, 28, is hitting .321/.424/.393 in 34 plate appearances this season. Last season, he hit .259/.345/.369 with 87 runs, eight triples and an AL-best 49 stolen bases. He's also one of the best defensive outfielders in baseball.

As Gardner remains shelved, the Yankees will continue to use some combination of Raul Ibanez, Jayson Nix and Dewayne Wise in left.
