Giants will offer Hunter Pence arbitration

The Giants will offer right fielder Hunter Pence arbitration and Pence should get between $13 million and $14 million for the 2013 season, reports CBSSports.com's Jon Heyman. The move seems a no-brainer, but there has been some recent speculation that the Giants might not offer.

The Giants will offer right fielder Hunter Pence arbitration, and Pence should receive between $13 million and $14 million for the 2013 season, reports CBSSports.com's Jon Heyman. The move seems a no-brainer, but there has been some recent speculation that the Giants might not offer.

Pence, 29, hit .253/.319/.425 with 24 homers, 104 RBI and 87 runs last season for the Phillies and Giants. He struggled a bit in the postseason but closed strong, going 4-for-10 with a double, RBI, stolen base and three runs in Games 2-4 of the World Series.

So with Pence and Gregor Blanco, the Giants have their corner outfield spots covered for next season. Center field is still a question, though. Incumbent center fielder Angel Pagan is a free agent. If he signs elsewhere, the Giants might turn to top prospect Gary Brown. Brown, 24, hit .279/.347/.385 with seven homers, 42 RBI, 73 runs, 32 doubles and 33 stolen bases last season for Double-A Richmond.
