The White Sox have re-signed outfielder Dewayne Wise on a one-year contract worth $700,000, the club announced Wednesday.

Wise, 34, hit .259/.293/.429 in 239 plate appearances between the Yankees and White Sox in 2012, with his 91 OPS+ matching his best output in a season with at least 100 plate appearances (2008, also with the White Sox). Wise also tacked on 19 stolen bases and was caught just four times.

Wise will serve as a fourth or fifth outfielder on the South Side. Although he has distinct holes in his swing and poor discipline -- 52 strikeouts against just 11 walks in 2012 -- his speed and ability to cover all three outfield spots make him a good fit as a reserve.
