Calhoun isn't in the Angels' lineup for Wednesday's game versus Milwaukee, Sam Blum of The Athletic reports. Calhoun was held hitless in seven at-bats through the first two games of the series, and he'll now sit down for Wednesday's series finale. His absence will move Logan O'Hoppe into the DH role while Matt Thaiss starts behind the plate.... See More ... See Less

Angels' Willie Calhoun: Sitting in fourth straight
Calhoun is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Giants, Erica Weston of Bally Sports West reports. Calhoun has been displaced as the Angels' designated hitter in four straight games while Taylor Ward has handled those duties since returning from a one-game absence due to a back injury. It's unclear if Calhoun will recapture a regular role when or if Ward moves back to his previous spot in left field. Dating back to May 22, Calhoun has produced a modest .564 OPS, which may have put him at risk of losing his job even if Ward's back injury hadn't cropped up.... See More ... See Less -
Angels' Willie Calhoun: On bench Saturday
Calhoun is not in the starting lineup for Saturday's contest against the Giants, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports. Calhoun will remain on the bench for a third game in a row. Taylor Ward will make another start at designated hitter after recently battling a back issue, while Kevin Pillar enters the lineup in left field and bats fourth versus San Francisco.... See More ... Angels' Willie Calhoun: Sitting again
Calhoun is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Giants. Calhoun will take a seat for a second straight game Friday, with Kevin Pillar playing left field and batting cleanup while Taylor Ward bats third as the DH. Calhoun is 10-for-30 (.333) in June with five walks and two strikeouts.... See More ... See Less -
Angels' Willie Calhoun: Getting breather Thursday
Calhoun isn't in the Angels' lineup for Thursday's game against Arizona, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports. After a 2-for-5 performance during the Angels' win Wednesday, Calhoun will take a seat for the series finale Thursday. His absence will move Taylor Ward into the DH spot while Kevin Pillar starts in left field.... See More ... See Less -
Angels' Willie Calhoun: Out versus lefty
Calhoun isn't in the Angels' lineup Thursday versus the Yankees, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports. Lefty Carlos Rodon is on the mound for the Yankees, so the lefty-hitting Calhoun will take a seat to begin the game. In his place as the designated hitter, Cole Tucker will start and bat eighth.... Angels' Willie Calhoun: Sitting against lefty
Calhoun isn't in the Angels' lineup Tuesday versus the Yankees. With southpaw Nestor Cortes set to pitch for New York, the lefty-hitting Calhoun will step out of the lineup in favor of Cole Tucker, who will bat eighth while serving as the Angels' DH.... See More ... See Less -
Angels' Willie Calhoun: Resting Sunday
Calhoun is not in the starting lineup for Sunday's series finale against the Guardians. Despite Cleveland sending out right-hander Ben Lively, the lefty-hitting Calhoun will begin Sunday's game in the dugout. Since being promoted to the majors May 1, Calhoun is slashing .280/.294/.427 with nine doubles, one home run and five RBI over 85 plate appearances, though he's gone 0-for-12 across his last three starts. Kevin Pillar will serve as the designated hitter Sunday and bat in the cleanup spot.... See More ... See Less -
Angels' Willie Calhoun: Collects four hits
Calhoun went 4-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI in Friday's win over the Rangers. Calhoun opened his night with a groundout in the second inning before singling in four straight at-bats. He's knocked at least three hits in four of his first 13 games with the Angels, including two straight. However, in his other nine games, he's gone 6-for-34 (.176). Calhoun is slashing .365/.382/.577 with 11 runs scored through 55 plate appearances.... See More ... See Less -
Angels' Willie Calhoun: Three hits in loss
Calhoun went 3-for-4 with a solo home run and an RBI double in Sunday's 4-2 loss to the Royals. Calhoun was responsible for both of the Angels' runs in the game. The homer was his first with the team, and he's up to three RBI, six runs scored and a .333/.361/.606 slash line over 36 plate appearances since he was called up from Triple-A Salt Lake at the start of May. That productivity has helped him carve out a role as the Angels' primary designated hitter, though it's unlikely he'll be able to sustain his production in the long run.... See More ... See Less -
Angels' Willie Calhoun: Sitting Saturday
Calhoun is not in Saturday's lineup against the Royals. Calhoun was in the lineup against a lefty Wednesday, but he'll take a seat in this one against southpaw Cole Ragans. Look for Calhoun to play regularly as the designated hitter when the Angels face a right-handed pitcher.... See More ... See Less -
Angels' Willie Calhoun: Gaining traction in everyday lineup
Calhoun will serve as the Angels' designated hitter and cleanup batter in Sunday's game against the Guardians. Calhoun will stick in the starting nine for the third straight game after going 4-for-8 with two doubles and one run to begin his tenure with the Angels. At least while Miguel Sano (knee) and Anthony Rendon (hamstring) are on the injured list, the lefty-hitting Calhoun should be in store for regular starts as the Angels' DH against right-handed pitching.... Angels' Willie Calhoun: Tallies three hits in team debut
Calhoun went 3-for-4 with a double and a run Friday in a 6-0 win against the Guardians. Calhoun started at DH and batted cleanup in his first action with Los Angeles after being called up from Triple-A on Wednesday. The veteran was productive in his first game with the big club, and he scored the team's second run following a fourth-inning double. With Miguel Sano (knee) and Anthony Rendon (hamstring) among a bevy of Angels on the injured list, Calhoun could see semi-regular starts at designated hitter, though manager Ron Washington has shifted various players into the DH role throughout the campaign.... Angels' Willie Calhoun: Joins big-league roster
The Angels selected Calhoun's contract from Triple-A Salt Lake on Wednesday. Calhoun has slashed .268/.345/.361 with one home run in 26 contests this season with Salt Lake. The 29-year-old is taking Miguel Sano's (knee) spot on the active roster and could see some starts at designated hitter and/or the outfield versus righties.... See More ... See Less -
Angels' Willie Calhoun: Headed to majors
The Angels will select Calhoun's contract from Triple-A Salt Lake prior to Wednesday's game against the Phillies, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports. There's no word yet on who Calhoun will replace on the roster, but it's possible Miguel Sano (knee) is headed to the injured list. Calhoun, 29, is hitting .268/.345/.361 with one home run in 26 contests this season with Salt Lake. He'll give the Halos some depth at outfield and designated hitter.... See More ... See Less -
Angels' Willie Calhoun: Shifts to minor-league camp
The Angels reassigned Calhoun to minor-league camp Friday. Calhoun joined the Halos as a non-roster invitee over the winter but posted just a .628 OPS over 33 plate appearances during spring training. He's now likely headed for Triple-A Salt Lake.... See More ... See Less -
Angels' Willie Calhoun: Reaches NRI deal with Halos
Calhoun signed a minor-league contract with the Angels on Wednesday that includes an invitation to spring training, Sam Blum of The Athletic reports. Calhoun flashed a lot of potential in the early part of his professional career, but he is now 29 years old and has batted just .225/.292/.352 in 170 big-league games (603 plate appearances) since the beginning of the 2020 campaign.... Willie Calhoun: Heads to open market
Calhoun elected free agency Wednesday in lieu of accepting an outright assignment to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Calhoun will be moving on from the Yankees and looking to catch on elsewhere on a major-league or minor-league deal after he was activated from the 10-day injured list and designated for assignment last week. Before hitting the IL in late June with a left quadricep strain, the 28-year-old logged 149 plate appearances for the Yankees, slashing .239/.309/.403 with five home runs and 16 RBI.... See More ... Yankees' Willie Calhoun: Outrighted to Triple-A
The Yankees outrighted Calhoun to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Monday. Calhoun passed through waivers unclaimed after being designated for assignment last Friday. Yankees' Willie Calhoun: Designated for assignment
Calhoun (quad) was activated from the 10-day injured list and designated for assignment Friday. Calhoun is over his quad injury following a handful of rehab games with Double-A Somerset, but the Yankees weren't able to find room for him on the active roster. He will now go through the waiver process and, if he clears, will have the option to elect free agency.... See More ... See Less
