Chicago Bears OT Chris Williams hasn't played center yet, but he's shown he can play just about every other line position.

Williams moved to RT again Friday at the Bears Family Fest practice in Soldier Field, although he didn't take as many first-team snaps as he did at the spot on Thursday. Gabe Carimi was able to practice more extensively at the spot a day after complaining of knee discomfort.

"Everyday is an adventure," Williams said.

He started battling J'Marcus Webb for starting LT after moving to guard in 2010 and 2011. Before that, he'd been playing right or left tackle.

Williams' switch inside to guard wasn't exactly what he'd looked for coming out of Vanderbilt as a tackle and first-round draft pick. He did it for the team. It was also better than sitting.

"At that point you are just doing what the team needs," Williams said. "Roberto (Garza) needed surgery then, so they needed me inside and I go inside and do what they asked me to do."

The LT battle hasn't been conceded or even announced as a J'Marcus Webb victory by coach Lovie Smith, but realistically it appears over as Williams isn't taking any snaps there after alternating every other day early in camp.

It appears Webb, who had an NFL-high 15 penalties last year, has the job.

"Obviously, whoever the starting five guys are, we’re going to have a lot of confidence in," said Garza. "We’ve played a lot of football and won a lot of games with J’Marcus so whoever is in that position is going to be the guy."

Festivus: A total of 27,352 came to the Family Fest. Field conditions were immaculate a year after the night practice was canceled due to dried sod on the field. The Chicago Park District, which owns the stadium, vowed at the time to work more closely with the Bears and groundskeeper Kenny Mrock to get the field in shape and it has worked.

Warm welcome: WR Brandon Marshall made his Bears debut at Soldier Field by catching a TD pass deep in the back of the end zone to beat double coverage by LB Lance Briggs and S Chris Conte. Marshall expressed some nerves over practicing in front of so many fans, but added, "It gives you the extra juice to get through the day and it feels like a game."

Daunte Cutler: Mike Tice has brought along one of his old tricks from Minnesota. Jay Cutler scored on a 3-yard TD run on a quarterback draw on third-and-goal from the 3 during goal-line scrimmgage. It's a risky play, but Cutler is a big QB. Both Cutler and backup Jason Campbell have run the play a lot in scrimmages -- it was something Daunte Culpepper used to do against the Bears when Tice was head coach of the Vikings.
