It's been just over a week since the Jets' Matt Slauson was told that he would be competing for his job at left guard against Vlad Ducasse.

"All I can control is what I do," Slauson said on Friday. "I can't do anything about that. All I can focus on is improving each day."

As for the situation at right tackle, with Jeff Otah having failed his physical, Slauson said, "Wayne (Hunter) was our guy either way. Wayne is improving every single day."

The offense "won" practice on Thursday, but on Friday had a much more anemic outing.

"There are going to be speed bumps," Slauson said. "You are going to have those days. It's what you're going to do about."

Slauson was asked about comments made by President Barack Obama on Thursday about the trade for QB Tim Tebow.

His reply? "He doesn't play football for the Jets."
