Tierney is backing France +16.5 against the United States in the men's basketball final. Tierney notes that the opening spread of 14.5 already has been bumped to 16.5, suggesting that bettors believe that the United States' near-upset loss to Serbia in the semifinals will spark a dominant performance in Saturday's final.
The United States is 3-0 all-time against France in the gold-medal game and USA defeated France 87-82 in the 2020 gold-medal game in Tokyo behind 29 points from Kevin Durant and 19 from Jayson Tatum. Tierney anticipates another close final in part because France will be inspired by the home-court advantage and, as many close games have shown, international clubs have continued to close what was once a seemingly insurmountable gulf between themselves and the United States in men's basketball.
