  • Jorge Mateo 2B | BAL

Orioles' Jorge Mateo: Adds another steal Sunday

Mateo went 1-for-4 with a stolen base and a run scored in Sunday's 6-3 win over the Mariners.

Mateo has a steal in each of the last two games, giving him seven thefts on the year. The infielder has gone 11-for-42 (.262) over 14 games in May, lifting his season slash line to .259/.299/.457 over 89 plate appearances. Sunday was the first time in four contests he didn't record an extra-base hit, though there typically isn't an abundance of power in his game. Mateo should continue to occupy a starting role at second base as long as he's hitting well.

  • Jorge Polanco 2B | SEA

Mariners' Jorge Polanco: IL decision likely imminent

Polanco (hamstring), who was out of the lineup for a fifth straight game Sunday, did some explosive running drills before Sunday's series finale against the Orioles but could still be placed on the injured list in coming days, MLB.com reports.

Despite Polanco upping his activity level Sunday, manager Scott Servais confirmed the veteran infielder is still not moving around at full speed. As such, the Mariners could make a decision on whether to place Polanco on the IL as early as Monday when the team opens a four-game series against the Yankees. Servais conceded Sunday that Polanco was feeling better and has progressed to swinging a bat without discomfort, but given the lingering nature of hamstring injuries, an IL stint might still be necessary to ensure a full recovery.

  • Jared Triolo 2B | PIT

Pirates' Jared Triolo: Collects steal Sunday

Triolo went 2-for-4 with a stolen base in Sunday's 3-2 win over the Cubs.

Triolo has gone 5-for-11 with four strikeouts over his last three games. Prior to this burst of offense, he went just 2-for-30 with an 8:13 BB:K over a 10-game stretch. The infielder is slashing a poor .212/.297/.265 with two home runs, four steals, 15 RBI, eight runs scored and two doubles over 172 plate appearances this season. While those numbers aren't great, Triolo appears set to maintain a starting role at third base as long as Ke'Bryan Hayes (back) is out.

  • Brice Turang 2B | MIL

Brewers' Brice Turang: Knocks three hits

Turang went 3-for-5 with a double, two RBI, a run scored and a steal in Sunday's loss to Houston.

Turang doubled, swiped third base and scored in the first inning. He later knocked a two-run single in the seventh. He's been swinging a hot bat all season and is officially entering breakout territory. After registering a brutal .585 OPS through 448 plate appearances in 2023, Turang owns a .314/.369/.431 slash line through 43 games this season. He's perfect in 18 stolen base attempts and has produced 15 multi-hit games.

  • Colt Keith 2B | DET

Tigers' Colt Keith: On bench versus lefty

Keith is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Diamondbacks

Keith went 4-for-9 with a walk, two RBI and three runs while starting the first two games of the series, but he'll sit Sunday as lefty Jordan Montgomery takes the mound for Arizona. Andy Ibanez will man second base and bat leadoff.

  • Jorge Polanco 2B | SEA

Mariners' Jorge Polanco: Absence continues Sunday

Polanco (hamstring) is out of the lineup for Sunday's game at Baltimore.

Polanco is out of the starting nine for the fifth straight game as he continues to manage soreness in his right hamstring. Josh Rojas is picking up another start at the keystone while Luis Urias mans the hot corner.

  • Nico Hoerner 2B | CHC

Cubs' Nico Hoerner: Remains out Sunday

Hoerner (hamstring) is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Pirates, Andy Martinez of Marquee Sports Network reports.

Make it six straight absences for Hoerner, who continues to nurse a sore left hamstring. He was still hoping to avoid the injured list as of Friday, but it's reasonable to think Hoerner to the IL could be the move to accommodate the return of Dansby Swanson (knee) on Tuesday. Nick Madrigal has been serving as the Cubs' primary second baseman in Hoerner's absence.

  • Luis Garcia 2B | WAS

Nationals' Luis Garcia: Back in lineup as DH

Garcia (heel) will serve as the designated hitter and bat cleanup in Sunday's game against the Phillies.

After being held out of the lineup for the first two games of the series with a right heel injury, Garcia has gained clearance to return Sunday, albeit only as the DH. It's uncertain when he may return to the field, but the fact that Garcia is still active suggests the team is not concerned about the injury becoming worse with play.

  • Nolan Gorman 2B | STL

Cardinals' Nolan Gorman: Heads to bench Sunday

Gorman is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Red Sox, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.

Gorman has homered in back-to-back games, but the strikeouts are piling up. He's struck out 10 times in his last 16 at-bats, bringing his K-rate to 35 percent through 157 plate appearances this season. Brendan Donovan will start at second base Sunday as Alec Burleson takes over in left field and Matt Carpenter starts at DH.

  • Ketel Marte 2B | ARI

Diamondbacks' Ketel Marte: Extends hitting streak to 17 games

Marte went 1-for-4 with an RBI triple and a run scored in Saturday's loss to the Tigers.

Marte went down on strikes in each of his first two at-bats before driving in the first run of the game with a one-out triple in the bottom of the sixth. He would come home to score as well on a Joc Pederson single in the following at-bat, though the effort would fall short as Detroit stormed back in the seventh to take the lead. The triple was Marte's second of the season and extended his hitting streak to 17 games. However, he's recorded only one multi-hit game over that stretch and is batting just .246 in May with four homers, 10 RBI and seven runs scored.
