It's a good thing the Dodgers are on the verge of a trade for another starter, because Chad Billingsley left Friday night's game with the Marlins in the fourth inning with what the team called a "tender right elbow."
Billingsley spent time on the disabled list with right elbow inflammation in July, but had been 6-0 with a 1.30 ERA in six starts since then.
The right-hander exited the game in the fourth inning with one out and runners at second and third and a 2-0 count on pinch-hitter Gorkys Hernandez. Jamey Wright relieved him. Wright walked Hernandez, but struck out his next two batters to end the inning. Billingsley allowed three runs on five hits and three walks while striking out just one.
The Dodgers have reportedly agreed to a trade that would bring Josh Beckett to Los Angeles, which would help if Billingsley has to return to the disabled list. With the addition of Beckett, it looked as if the Dodgers would move Joe Blanton to the bullpen, but if Billingsley can't go, Blanton will stay in the rotation.
