Walker (toe) is expected to be ready to make his next scheduled start Wednesday at home versus the Rangers, Alex Coffey of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports. Walker suffered a toe injury in his last start Thursday versus the Mets, exiting the contest in the fourth inning, but he now appears ready to go for his next outing. The right-hander has produced a 4.91 ERA and 1.41 WHIP with 16 strikeouts over 22 innings in four starts this season. Prior to getting hurt, he had logged back-to-back quality starts, and he'll look to get back on track against Texas.... See More ... See Less

Phillies' Taijuan Walker: Testing foot Sunday
Walker (foot) will throw a light bullpen session Sunday, Alex Coffey of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports. Walker was forced out of his last start Thursday versus the Mets after taking a comebacker off his left foot. Once he gets a chance to throw off a mound Sunday, the Phillies will make a decision on whether or not the 31-year-old righty will make his next scheduled start -- tentatively scheduled for Wednesday against the Rangers. If the Phillies deem Walker unfit to start, Spencer Turnbull would return to the rotation.... See More ... See Less -
Phillies' Taijuan Walker: Slated to throw Monday
Walker (toe) is scheduled to do some throwing Monday, Corey Seidman of NBC Sports Philadelphia reports. Walker had to depart Thursday's start against the Mets after he took a comebacker off his left foot. He was not able to move his injured toe Thursday but is feeling better Friday. Walker's status for his next start -- tentatively slated for Wednesday at home versus the Rangers -- is up in the air. Spencer Turnbull would step back into the rotation if Walker remains sidelined.... See More ... See Less -
Phillies' Taijuan Walker: No broken bones
X-rays came back negative on Walker's left foot after he was forced to exit Thursday's start against the Mets in the fourth inning, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports. Walker was hit by a line drive in the fourth inning and limped off the mound. The initial diagnosis was a bruise, and the negative X-rays are also a good sign. Even so, the Phillies are unsure if he will be able to take his next turn through the rotation.... See More ... See Less -
Phillies' Taijuan Walker: Diagnosed with bruise
Walker was diagnosed with a left foot bruise after exiting Thursday's start against the Mets, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports. Walker exited after being struck by a line drive and limped off the field. The extent of the damage is not yet known, but he is currently undergoing imaging which should clarify his outlook. Spencer Turnbull could be reinserted into the rotation should Walker miss any time.... See More ... See Less -
Phillies' Taijuan Walker: Early exit from Thursday's start
Walker exited Thursday's start against the Mets after being struck in the left foot by a line drive, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports. Walker had completed 3.1 innings, allowing two earned runs on four hits and two walks while striking out only one. It's unclear if the injury will affect his ability to take his next turn through the rotation, but he'll likely undergo imaging on either Thursday night or Friday.... See More ... See Less -
Phillies' Taijuan Walker: Moves to 3-0
Walker (3-0) earned the win Saturday against the Marlins, yielding just one run on eight hits and one walk over six frames. He struck out four. Walker went at least six innings for the third time in three starts since he returned from the injured list, and he's picked up the victory in all three of those outings. The backing of the Phillies' offense has helped, of course, as Walker is sporting a 4.82 ERA. Regardless he's trending in the right direction with back-to-back quality starts. He'll attempt to move his record to 4-0 next week against either the Mets or Nationals at home.... See More ... See Less -
Phillies' Taijuan Walker: Handles Giants for win No. 2
Walker (2-0) earned the win over the Giants on Sunday, allowing three runs on five hits and a walk while striking out seven over 6.1 innings. The Giants got to Walker in the opening frame with a run, but he was able to silence them the rest of the way until Thairo Estrada crushed a two-run blast in the seventh to make it a 5-3 ballgame and end Walker's night. Walker has now carried strong outings into the seventh in back-to-back starts to open up the season but hasn't quite been able to seal the deal. He has a 3.00 ERA through innings 1-6 and a 67.50 ERA in the seventh frame. His spot in the rotation is secure after the Phillies announced Spencer Turnbull would be operating as a bulk relief option moving forward. Walker owns a 6.39 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 11:3 K:BB in 12.2 innings and lines up to face the Marlins on the road his next time out.... See More ... See Less -
Phillies' Taijuan Walker: Earns win despite shaky debut
Walker (1-0) picked up the win over the Padres on Sunday, allowing six runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out four over 6.1 innings. The Padres piled on all six of their runs in just two innings. They got to Walker for three runs in the third with Fernando Tatis doubling home Jurickson Profar before coming home on a two-run blast from Jake Cronenworth. Walker was able to cruise into the seventh where he ran into more trouble, as the Padres added three more runs on a home run from Luis Campusano to make it a 7-6 game. His day would end there and he was able to squeak by with an ugly win. He'll look for some better results next time and is projected to take the mound next weekend against the Giants.... See More ... Phillies' Taijuan Walker: Activated for season debut
The Phillies reinstated Walker (shoulder) from the 15-day injured list ahead of his start against the Padres on Sunday. The veteran right-hander will make his season debut Sunday in San Diego after he missed the first month of the season with a shoulder issue. Walker threw 102 pitches over 6.1 innings during his final rehab appearance, so he likely won't face any significant limitations in his first MLB outing of 2024.... See More ... See Less -
Phillies' Taijuan Walker: Reaches seventh inning in rehab start
Walker (shoulder) struck out one and allowed four earned runs on seven hits and three walks over 6.1 innings in the third start of his rehab assignment Sunday with Triple-A Lehigh Valley. Though he's struck out just two batters while walking six over his last two rehab appearances with Lehigh Valley, Walker appears ready to return from the 15-day injured list from a workload standpoint. He tossed 102 pitches while reaching the seventh inning in Sunday's outing, making him an option to rejoin the Philadelphia rotation as soon as this upcoming weekend in San Diego if the Phillies elect to bring him back. The Phillies are expected to maintain a five-man rotation upon Walker's return, with Spencer Turnbull likely to move to the bullpen in spite of his strong start to the season (1.23 ERA, 0.77 WHIP, 22:7 K:BB in 22 innings), according to MLB.com reports.... Phillies' Taijuan Walker: Will make another rehab start
Walker (shoulder) will make one more rehab start with Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Sunday before rejoining the Phillies' rotation, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports. The Phillies had considered having Walker make his next appearance with the big club, but they opted to give him one more tune-up. That sets Walker up for his season debut next weekend in San Diego. Spencer Turnbull has pitched well in his place but could lose his rotation spot once Walker returns.... See More ... See Less -
Phillies' Taijuan Walker: Could be activated soon
Walker (shoulder) will throw a bullpen session Friday and could be activated from the 15-day injured list after that, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports. The Phillies had said they wanted Walker to make four rehab starts before he returns from the IL, but he's made just two so far and the organization may have been pleased enough with his progress to bring him back early. It's not yet clear what day Walker might rejoin the rotation, but it might make sense to slot him in Monday and give Ranger Suarez an extra day of rest after he threw 112 pitches in a shutout Tuesday. Spencer Turnbull has pitched well while filling in for Walker, although he struggled a bit his last time out. He would likely be bumped from the rotation when Walker is ready, or the Phillies could keep a six-man starting staff intact temporarily. Walker is coming back from a right shoulder impingement.... Phillies' Taijuan Walker: Four innings in rehab outing
Walker (shoulder) allowed two earned runs on two hits and no walks while striking out four across four innings during a rehab appearance with Single-A Clearwater on Thursday, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports. Walker is expected to make four rehab appearances, with Thursday's start being the first. While he was able to work deep into the game, he sat at 91 mph with his fastball -- 1.7 mph below his average from 2023. Walker projects to return from the injured list in early May.... See More ... Phillies' Taijuan Walker: Set for minor-league assignment
Walker (shoulder) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Thursday, Scott Lauber of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports. The plan is for Walker to get four starts with increasing pitch counts before joining the Phillies rotation. Todd Zolecki of MLB.com adds that Philadelphia wants to see Walker reach 100 pitches before rejoining the team. Walker threw 46 pitches pitches over three innings in a live batting practice session over the weekend, so he could be ready to handle around four innings and 60 pitches in his first rehab start. The right-hander was placed on the team's 15-day injured list after dealing with a right shoulder impingement during spring training.... See More ... See Less -
Phillies' Taijuan Walker: Shifts to IL
The Phillies placed Walker (shoulder) on the 15-day injured list Thursday. He was one of five Phillies players to land on the IL on Thursday as Philadelphia reduced its active roster to 26 men in advance of the team's season opener versus Atlanta. Walker, who is recovering from right shoulder soreness, hasn't resumed throwing since he experienced discomfort in a bullpen session last weekend. Spencer Turnbull will step into the Philadelphia rotation as the team's No. 5 starter until Walker is ready to make his season debut.... See More ... See Less -
Phillies' Taijuan Walker: Out with shoulder impingement
Walker was diagnosed with a right shoulder impingement Sunday and will start the season on the injured list, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports. The veteran right-hander experienced some discomfort while prepping for a bullpen session Saturday, and he won't be available to begin the regular season. Walker will rest for an undisclosed period before attempting to restart his throwing program, so he seems likely to spend more than the 15-day minimum on the injured list. Spencer Turnbull is poised to claim the open spot in Philadelphia's starting rotation.... See More ... See Less -
Phillies' Taijuan Walker: Battling shoulder issue
Walker reported shoulder discomfort while getting loose for a bullpen session Saturday, Scott Lauber of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports. The Phillies sent Walker in for an MRI upon learning of his discomfort, and more information should be available Sunday after results come back. Should Walker have to begin the season on the injured list, Spencer Turnbull would claim the open spot in Philadelphia's rotation.... See More ... See Less -
Phillies' Taijuan Walker: Velocity down in spring debut
Walker averaged just 89.4 mph with his four-seam fastball during Saturday's Grapefruit League debut versus the Blue Jays, Alex Coffey of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports. The right-hander allowed one run on two hits and one walk while notching three strikeouts over two innings. Both Walker and Phillies manager Rob Thomson were unconcerned about the righty's low velocity, noting that Walker hasn't thrown much this spring due to a sore knee and also being away for personal reasons. Walker's velocity was down in 2023 after he lost about 20 pounds last offseason, but he put that weight back on this winter in hopes of regaining the zip on his fastball. His velocity will be worth tracking in the next couple weeks.... See More ... See Less -
Phillies' Taijuan Walker: Set for Grapefruit debut Saturday
Walker (knee) will see his first Grapefruit League action of the spring Saturday, Corey Seidman of NBC Sports Philadelphia reports. Walker was away from the Phillies early on in camp for personal reasons and has dealt with a sore right knee over the past week. However, he got through his last bullpen session with no problems and has been cleared for his first spring start. He should still have enough time to ramp up prior to Opening Day.... See More ...
