Rosario went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run during Sunday's 11-5 loss to the Phillies. Rosario clobbered his sixth home run of the campaign -- each of which has come off right-handed pitching -- in the fourth inning off Aaron Nola. Although Rosario is batting .180, he's swiped six bags through 36 games, tying his combined total from the last two seasons.... See More ... See Less

Nationals' Eddie Rosario: Resting versus lefty
Rosario isn't in the Nationals' lineup Saturday against the Phillies. Rosario will take a seat on the bench as southpaw Cristopher Sanchez gets set to start Saturday's game for Philadelphia. Jesse Winker, Jacob Young and Victor Robles will start across the outfield while Rosario sits.... See More ... See Less -
Nationals' Eddie Rosario: Taking seat against southpaw
Rosario is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the White Sox, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports. With left-hander Garrett Crochet on the hill for Chicago, the lefty-hitting Rosario will hit the bench for the series finale. Rosario picked up starts in the corner outfield in both ends of Tuesday's doubleheader, going a collective 2-for-9 with a double, an RBI and a run scored.... See More ... See Less -
Nationals' Eddie Rosario: Lone source of offense
Rosario went 1-for-2 with two walks, a stolen base and a two-run home run during Sunday's 3-2 loss to the Red Sox. The veteran outfielder produced the Nationals' only runs Sunday, taking Brayan Bello deep in the fourth frame. Rosario is on a tear, having swatted four home runs in his last six games while reaching base multiple times in seven consecutive contests. He has also produced three stolen bases during that stretch, tying his 2022 and 2023 totals.... See More ... See Less -
Nationals' Eddie Rosario: Belts clutch homer
Rosario went 2-for-4 with a solo home run, an additional run and a walk in Wednesday's extra-innings loss to the Orioles. The Nationals were down to their last out against Baltimore closer Craig Kimbrel in the ninth inning when Rosario came through with a solo blast to center field to cut the deficit to one. Washington plated another run in the frame to send the game into extra innings, though the team ultimately fell short. The blast was another step in the right direction for Rosario, who recently went through an 11-game, 0-for-27 slump. Since then, the veteran outfielder has gotten at least one hit in four straight games, going 6-for-14 with two homers and four RBI over that span.... See More ... See Less -
Nationals' Eddie Rosario: Still has manager's confidence
Rosario has remained a regular in the Nationals' lineup despite his early-season struggles, and manager Dave Martinez hasn't given up on the 32-year-old, Jessica Camerato of MLB.com reports. "It's early," Martinez said Thursday. "You've got to give him a chance, you really do. I'm not going to sit him down yet right now. He's got to go out there and play. ... I've seen him play before. This kid can hit. He can put you on his shoulders." At the moment, Rosario is handling the strong side of a platoon in right field while Lane Thomas (knee) is injured, but he's mired in an 0-for-27 slump that has sunk his slash line on the season to .086/.133/.157. Rosario has a history of slow starts, but even his xBA and xwOBA are in the bottom one percent of qualified hitters. Once Thomas gets healthy, the Nats may not be able to afford to stay patient with Rosario, especially with top prospect James Wood also making a strong case for a promotion to the majors.... Nationals' Eddie Rosario: Takes seat against lefty
Rosario is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Rangers. The lefty-hitting Rosario once again finds himself on the bench for the third time in four games while the Nationals face another left-handed starting pitcher (Andrew Heaney). Platoon mate Alex Call gets the start in right field while Rosario takes a seat.... See More ... See Less -
Nationals' Eddie Rosario: Out against lefty again
Rosario is out of the lineup for Monday's game in Miami. With the Nationals facing a left-handed starting pitcher for the second consecutive day, the lefty-hitting Rosario will cede his spot in the lineup to the right-handed-hitting Alex Call. As a strong-side platoon player, Rosario should still see the bulk of the starts in right field while the Nationals are without Lane Thomas (knee) and Joey Gallo (shoulder).... See More ... Nationals' Eddie Rosario: Hits bench against lefty
Rosario is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Marlins. Though his playing time against right-handed pitching should be stable for the foreseeable future while Lane Thomas (knee) and Joey Gallo (shoulder) are on the shelf, the lefty-hitting Rosario is still expected to sit regularly versus southpaws. Rosario will hit the bench Sunday with lefty Ryan Weathers on the hill for Miami, paving the way for the righty-hitting Alex Call to draw a start in the corner outfield.... See More ... See Less -
Nationals' Eddie Rosario: Swipes first bag of year
Rosario went 0-for-4 with a stolen base in Friday's 3-1 win over the Marlins. Getting the start in right field and batting sixth, Rosario beat out a potential double play in the second inning and promptly stole second base, but he was otherwise quiet on the night. The steal was the first of the campaign for the veteran outfielder, and given that he went 3-for-7 on SB attempts for Atlanta in 2023, he's unlikely to make much of an impact in that category. Rosario isn't doing much with his bat, either -- despite consistent playing time, he's slashing a woeful .100/.141/.183 through 64 plate appearances with one homer, three RBI and three runs.... Nationals' Eddie Rosario: Sits versus southpaw
Rosario is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Athletics, Andrew Golden of The Washington Post reports. Rosario is mired in a 1-for-22 slump and will hit the bench Sunday with lefty Alex Wood pitching for Oakland. Jared Young will start in center field and bat leadoff Sunday.... See More ... See Less -
Nationals' Eddie Rosario: Sitting versus left-hander
Rosario is not in the Nationals' starting lineup Tuesday versus San Francisco, Andrew Golden of The Washington Post reports. Rosario will take a seat as Washington faces left-hander Kyle Harrison, who's on the mound for the Giants on Tuesday. Jacob Young will take over in center field and bat ninth against San Francisco.... See More ... See Less -
Nationals' Eddie Rosario: On bench against lefty
Rosario is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Phillies, Bobby Blanco of MASNSports.com reports. Rosario has sat against all three of the left-handed starters Washington has faced this season, and that trend will continue Sunday versus Philadelphia southpaw Cristopher Sanchez. Jacob Young will start in center field and bat leadoff.... See More ... See Less -
Nationals' Eddie Rosario: Day off versus southpaw
Rosario isn't in the Nationals' lineup for Saturday's game against Philadelphia. The Phillies will send out left-hander Ranger Suarez to start Saturday's contest, keeping the left-handed bat of Rosario in the dugout. His absence will allow Jacob Young to make a start in center field while batting ninth.... See More ... See Less -
Nationals' Eddie Rosario: Idle versus lefty
Rosario is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Pirates. The lefty-hitting Rosario will retreat to the bench with southpaw Martin Perez on the mound for the Pirates. The newly recalled Jacob Young will replace Rosario in center field.... See More ... See Less -
Nationals' Eddie Rosario: Out against left-hander
Rosario is not in the lineup for Monday's game against the Pirates, Andrew Golden of The Washington Post reports. He occupied center field in each of the Nationals' first three games versus right-handers, but the lefty-hitting Rosario will seat in favor of Victor Robles while southpaw Marco Gonzales toes the rubber for Pittsburgh. Rosario went 3-for-11 with a home run in the weekend series against the Reds.... See More ... See Less -
Nationals' Eddie Rosario: Slugs Opening Day homer
Rosario went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run during Thursday's 8-2 loss to the Reds. After scoring a .199 ISO against RHP last season, Rosario continued to mash against righties to open 2024, launching a two-run homer off Emilio Pagan in the seventh inning. While he was a productive piece of a stacked Atlanta offense in 2023, Rosario will likely have a harder time finding RBI opportunities in a sub-par Nats offense.... See More ... See Less -
Nationals' Eddie Rosario: Gets start in center field
Rosario will start in center field and bat seventh in Thursday's season opener versus the Reds. Rosario hasn't played an inning in center field since 2019 and has never been a regular there at the major-league level, but the Nationals are hoping he can provide enough offense to make up for what's sure to be inadequate defense. Victor Robles will begin the game on the bench.... See More ... See Less -
Nationals' Eddie Rosario: Favorite for left field job
Rosario will get the start in left field during Tuesday's Grapefruit League game against the Mets, and the 32-year-old is viewed as the favorite to claim the starting job at the position, Mark Zuckerman of MASN Sports reports. "I'm really glad he's here," Nationals manager Dave Martinez said Monday after Rosario went 1-for-3 as the DH in his spring debut. "I know what he can do. Just another good left-handed bat, a good defender." Rosario signed a minor-league deal with the team last week and isn't guaranteed an Opening Day roster spot, but his defense and proven bat make him a good fit for a Washington lineup looking for reliable contributors. Over 142 games for Atlanta in 2023, Rosario slashed .255/.305/.450 with 21 homers and 74 RBI.... See More ... See Less -
Nationals' Eddie Rosario: Lands with Nats
Rosario agreed to a split contract with the Nationals on Wednesday, Daniel Alvarez-Montes of ElExtraBase.com reports. Alvarez-Montes relays that Rosario can earn up to $4 million if he's on the major-league roster and reaches all of his incentives. The 32-year-old would seem to be a good bet to at least do the former and should receive regular playing time against right-handed pitching between left field and the designated hitter spot. Rosario's addition would seem to be bad news for Jesse Winker's chances of making the Opening Day roster, and could also point to Stone Garrett being used mostly just against left-handers. Rosario slashed .255/.305/.450 with 21 home runs and 74 RBI over 142 games for Atlanta last season.... See More ... See Less
