Rockies' Jake Cave: Back on bench Monday
Cave is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Dodgers.
Cave had started in 11 of the Rockies' last 12 games, but he'll head to the bench with Nolan Jones having returned from the injured list and with Brenton Doyle (knee) back in the lineup after a two-game absence. Cave was hit in the head during batting practice Friday but returned to the lineup one day later. He participated in Colorado's 16-run offensive outburst in a significant way, and he now has at least one hit in each of his last four starts. Cave entered the lineup with Brenton Doyle (knee) scratched, though he may find consistent playing time hard to come by assuming Doyle doesn't require a stint on the injured list.

After being hit in the head by a line drive Friday during pre-game BP, Cave was cleared for action Saturday and will start in right field. Prior to the incident, Cave had generated a hit in three straight games and owns a .607 OPS on the year.

Cave received four stitches after being hit in the head by a line drive during pregame batting practice Friday, Patrick Lyons of JustBaseball.com reports.
Although Cave had to be carted off the field following the incident, he said after Friday's game that he felt fine and that there isn't any reason to suspect he might have suffered a concussion. It's possible the Rockies will keep the 31-year-old outfielder sidelined for another game or two just to be safe, but a trip to the injured list doesn't seem likely. Cave has slashed .238/.302/.305 with seven RBI through 116 plate appearances on the season.

Rockies' Jake Cave: Carted off field during BP
Cave was carted off the field during the Rockies' pre-game batting practice after being hit in the side of the head by a line drive, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports.
Cave was stationed in right field as the Rockies took BP. Trainers were seen applying pressure to the outfielder's head before he was carted off the field. Cave was slated to bat eighth and play right field but was scratched after the incident. The severity of the injury isn't yet known.
