Suarez hasn't allowed an earned run in 11 of his last 12 outings as he's lowered his ERA to a stellar 1.51 with a 0.86 WHIP and 40:8 K:BB while converting 23 saves over 41.2 innings this year.

Mazur is set for his eighth big-league start Friday and is back with the Padres for the first time since July 10. With Joe Musgrove (elbow) and Yu Darvish (elbow/personal) on the shelf, San Diego has been searching for a reliable fifth starter, a role Mazur could fill if he performs well Friday. However, Mazur has tallied a 7.84 ERA in 31.0 innings this season.
The Padres activated Cosgrove (elbow) from the 15-day injured list Thursday and optioned him to Triple-A El Paso.
Cosgrove missed nearly a month of action with left elbow inflammation but has been cleared to pitch in games again. The southpaw has battled through a dreadful 2024 campaign which has seen him cough up 19 runs over 14.2 innings during his time with the Padres.
Kim went 2-for-4 with a double and three RBI in Thursday's 3-0 win over Washington.
Kim cleared the bases with a first-inning double to give San Diego a 3-0 lead. That ended up being the final score, as the Padres' offense went dormant the rest of the way and Dylan Cease shut down the Nationals with his first career no-hitter. For Kim, the performance snapped a string of 11 straight contests without a run batted in. In fact, his three RBI were as many as he had collected over his previous 21 games combined.

The no-hitter was the first of Cease's career, though he came within one out of accomplishing the feat in September of 2022 before current teammate Luis Arraez broke up the bid. The right-hander needed 114 pitches to finish off the historic effort Thursday, and he was nearly pulled after seven frames before talking manager Mike Shildt into remaining in the contest, per Bob Nightengale of USA Today. Remarkably, this was Cease's sixth outing of at least six frames and one or zero hits this season, and he's met those marks in each of his past three starts, allowing a combined two hits and no runs while posting a 30:7 K:BB over 22 frames during that span.
