  • Padres' Randy Vasquez: Rewarded with another start

Vasquez is slated to start Monday's game against the Rockies at Petco Park.

Yu Darvish returned from the 15-day injured list and rejoined the Padres rotation earlier this week, but San Diego will still have an opening for Vasquez as its fifth starter after Joe Musgrove (elbow) hit the shelf May 5. Though Vasquez has been largely unimpressive over his seven starts between the big club and Triple-A El Paso this season, he was solid his last time out Tuesday on the road against the Cubs, striking out six while allowing one run over 4.1 innings in a no-decision.

  • Padres' Luis Campusano: Homer, double in win

Campusano went 2-for-3 with a solo home run and a double in Friday's 2-1 win over the Dodgers.

Campusano opened the scoring with a third-inning solo shot. He added a double in the ninth, and pinch runner Tyler Wade scored on Luis Arraez's walkoff single. Campusano has reached base safely in each of his last six games, going 7-for-19 (.368) with two walks and six RBI in that span. The catcher is up to three homers, 10 doubles, 23 RBI, 17 runs scored and a .283/.323/.442 slash line through 35 contests this season in a starting role behind the plate.

  • Padres' Michael King: Strikes out season-high 11

King allowed two hits and three walks while striking out a season-high 11 over seven scoreless innings in a no-decision versus the Dodgers on Friday.

King put four runners on base but also racked up eight strikeouts over his first three innings. He ended up missing out on the win after Yuki Matsui allowed the game-tying run in the eighth inning. King was unsteady late in April, but he's opened May with 13 scoreless innings. The right-hander has a 3.67 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 54:24 K:BB through 49 innings over nine appearances (eight starts) this season. King is penciled in for a more favorable home matchup versus the Rockies his next time out.

  • Padres' Joe Musgrove: Resumes throwing

Musgrove (elbow) played catch Friday, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Friday marks the first time Musgrove has played catch since he landed on the injured list Sunday due to right elbow inflammation. The 31-year-old righty said everything looked good after receiving an MRI, and he still expects to return from the injured list when eligible next Friday. He owns a 6.37 ERA and 1.51 WHIP across 41 innings this season.

  • Padres' Robert Suarez: Perfect for 12th save

Suarez earned the save Wednesday against the Cubs, striking out one across a perfect inning.

Suarez advanced to 12-for-12 on save chances this season, putting him in lockstep with Kyle Finnegan for the most saves in baseball. The former has allowed just seven hits on the season, and the lone run charged against him came via a home run back on March 28. Suarez hasn't allowed a hit in 5.2 innings.

  • Padres' Dylan Cease: Allows one hit in seven frames

Cease (5-2) picked up the win Wednesday against the Cubs, allowing one hit and two walks over seven scoreless innings. He struck out 12.

Cease fell one K shy of his career high in strikeouts and allowed only four total baserunners -- an infield single, two walks and a hit-by-pitch -- en route to his fifth win of his last six starts. He's been making a case for the NL Cy Young in his first season with the Padres, earning a 2.19 ERA and a 0.75 WHIP with 60 strikeouts over 49.1 innings pitched. Cease will look to add to his already impressive 2024 resume in a projected home start Tuesday against the Rockies.

  • Padres' Jose Azocar: Chips in during start

Azocar went 2-for-4 during Tuesday's 3-2 loss to the Cubs.

Azocar made his 10th start of the season Tuesday, filling in for Jackson Merrill in center field, and received at least four at-bats for the first time since April 25. He delivered a pair of hits off Shota Imanaga for his second multi-hit game of the campaign. Despite operating in a reserve role for the Padres, Azocar is slashing .318/.362/.341 in 48 plate appearances.

  • Padres' Jurickson Profar: Goes yard at Wrigley Field

Profar went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run during Tuesday's 3-2 loss to the Cubs.

Profar, who's working on a four-game hit streak, was the only source of offense for the Padres, providing a two-run homer in the top of the eighth to put San Diego ahead 2-1. However, the Cubs scored a run apiece in the eighth and ninth to erase Profar's long ball and steal the win. At the age of 31, Profar is enjoying a breakout season, boasting a .958 OPS and a 179 WRC+ through 150 plate appearances.

  • Padres' Luis Arraez: Idle Tuesday

Arraez is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against Chicago.

After starting and batting leadoff in each of his first three appearances with the Padres, Arraez will get the day off Tuesday. While it's possible Arraez will cede work against lefties -- the Padres are facing southpaw Shota Imanaga on Tuesday -- Arraez was part of the team's lineup Monday against Justin Steele, who's also left-handed. Manny Machado will DH on Tuesday while Donovan Solano starts at third base.
