  • Braves' Spencer Schwellenbach: Falls apart in fifth

Schwellenbach (1-4) took the loss Sunday against the Pirates, giving up four runs on five hits over five innings. He struck out seven and walked two.

He cruised through four innings before running into a buzzsaw in the fifth, courtesy of two-run homers by Oneil Cruz and Rowdy Tellez. Schwellenbach had a similar issue in his last start against the Cardinals, giving up all four of his runs in the third inning. The rookie right-hander has now given up at least four runs in half of his six career starts and has seen his ERA jump to 5.68. He's scheduled for a tough test against the Phillies next weekend.

  • Braves' Spencer Schwellenbach: One bad inning Monday

Schwellenbach (1-3) took the loss Monday against the Cardinals, giving up four runs on eight hits over five innings. He struck out six without walking a batter.

The rookie didn't pitch badly overall, but he lost focus in the third inning and allowed all four of the runs against him thanks to five hits and a wild pitch. It was the first time in five big-league starts that Schwellenbach hasn't issued a free pass, and he's gone three straight outings without serving up a homer, providing hope that he can provide some stability to the back of Atlanta's rotation. The 24-year-old right-hander lines up to make his next start at home this weekend against the Pirates.

  • Braves' Spencer Schwellenbach: Nabs first career win

Schwellenbach (1-2) earned the win Tuesday, allowing one run on three hits and two walks across six innings against the Tigers. He struck out seven.

Schwellenbach logged a second straight quality start and set a career high in strikeouts en route to his first big-league win. The lone run against Schwellenbach came in the sixth inning, when Riley Greene hit a leadoff triple and scored on a Gio Urshela single later in the inning. While Schwellenbach owns a 4.98 ERA through four starts with Atlanta, his ERA is inflated by a six-run shelling at the hands of the the Red Sox on June 5. He's lined up to face the Cardinals in St. Louis on Monday.
