Rockies manager Bud Black said Friday that Lambert will be moving out of the rotation to the bullpen, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports. Lambert has started three games for the Rockies this season, giving up at least four runs in each of them. In his last outing against the Cubs on Thursday, Lambert allowed seven runs on nine hits while striking out two over three innings. The right-hander has a 7.61 ERA and 1.69 WHIP over 23.2 innings this season. Southpaw Ty Blach could shift into the rotation for Colorado.... See More ... See Less

Rockies' Peter Lambert: Tagged for seven runs
Lambert (2-2) took the loss against the Giants on Wednesday, allowing seven runs on nine hits and no walks over three innings. He struck out two. Lambert went 1-2-3 through the first inning before getting lit up for six runs in the second, beginning with a leadoff homer from Michael Conforto. The right-hander would allow another run on a Blake Sabol double in the third and wouldn't return to the mound for the fourth. The seven earned runs marked a season high for Lambert, and he's now allowed at least four runs in three of his last four starts. He's still looking for his first win since April 8 against the Diamondbacks, when he was working out of the bullpen.... See More ... See Less -
Rockies' Peter Lambert: Shaky vs. Marlins
Lambert did not factor into the decision Thursday against the Marlins, allowing four runs on five hits and three walks over 3.1 innings. He struck out three. The Marlins got to Lambert quickly, scoring twice in the opening inning before tacking on runs in the third and the fourth. The 27-year-old has struggled in his two starts this year, allowing 10 runs in 6.1 innings. He's fared better out of the bullpen, however, pitching to a 1.88 ERA over 14.1 innings in relief. Still, the right-hander figures to remain in the rotation while Kyle Freeland (elbow) is sidelined. Lambert is currently scheduled for a home start against the Giants in his next outing.... Rockies' Peter Lambert: Picks up another start
Lambert is scheduled to start Thursday's game in Miami. After making his first start of the season April 21 versus the Mariners, Lambert made his most recent appearance out of the bullpen, as he covered 2.2 innings in long relief on April 25 after starter Dakota Hudson was pulled from the contest midway through the fourth inning. After having off days last Friday and this past Monday, the Rockies were able to temporarily get by with a four-man rotation, but Lambert will return to starting role this week as the team returns to a five-man rotation.... Rockies' Peter Lambert: Struggles versus Mariners
Lambert (2-1) was tagged with the loss after he pitched three innings, allowing six runs on six hits while striking out five batters in Sunday's 10-2 defeat to the Mariners in Game 2 of their doubleheader. Lambert was able to toss a clean first inning before things got away from him in the top of the second, surrendering six runs in the frame with J.P. Crawford most notably ripping a three-run triple. The right-hander was making his first start of the season and he was unable to continue the success that he had coming out of the bullpen, watching his ERA balloon from 2.31 to 5.52 on the year. Lambert is tentatively set to pitch again next Sunday at home versus the Astros.... See More ... See Less -
Rockies' Peter Lambert: Moving to bullpen
The Rockies announced Sunday that Lambert will open the season as a long reliever, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports. The 26-year-old was fighting for a rotation spot but posted a 5.40 ERA over 16.2 spring innings and lost out to Dakota Hudson and Ryan Feltner. Lambert worked as a swingman for Colorado last season with 11 starts in 25 appearances, and he should fill a similar role in 2024.... See More ... See Less -
Rockies' Peter Lambert: Limiting runs in spring
Lambert allowed one hit and no walks while striking out two across three scoreless innings in Saturday's Cactus League game against the Cubs. Lambert hasn't allowed a run in three of his four spring outings and also hasn't issued a walk across his last two appearances. However, he's also lacked swing-and-miss stuff, as he's racked up only five strikeouts across nine frames. Lambert is competing for both a rotation and roster spot, and his spring performance should be beneficial to him.... See More ... See Less -
Rockies' Peter Lambert: Settles with Rockies at $1.25M
The Rockies and Lambert avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $1.25 million contract Thursday, Patrick Lyons of TheDNVR.com reports. Lambert receives a nice little raise in what was his first year of arbitration eligibility. The right-hander's 2023 season ended with a 5.36 ERA and biceps tendinitis, but he should be healthy for the start of spring training.... See More ... See Less -
Rockies' Peter Lambert: Out with biceps tendinitis
Lambert was placed on the 15-day injured list with right biceps tendinitis Saturday. Lambert technically has time to return before the end of the season, but the timing of the injury makes it quite likely that he's done for the year. If that's the case, he'll end his age-26 season having recorded a 5.36 ERA and 1.39 WHIP across 11 starts and 14 relief appearances. Karl Kauffmann was called up to take his place on the roster.... Rockies' Peter Lambert: Hit hard in loss
Lambert (3-7) gave up six runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out two over five innings, taking the loss Sunday versus the Giants. The Rockies gave Lambert a 3-0 lead to work with in the second inning, but it was gone by the end of the third. The Giants teed off with three homers in this contest, the most Lambert's given up in an appearance this season. He's now at a 5.36 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and 71:28 K:BB through 87.1 innings over 25 appearances (11 starts). The right-hander is projected for a rematch at home with the Giants in his next outing.... Rockies' Peter Lambert: Takes fifth loss
Lambert (3-5) took the loss Tuesday, allowing three runs on nine hits over five innings against Atlanta. He struck out two. Though Lambert fell to his fifth loss of the campaign, he surrendered just three runs, notching his fourth straight start with three runs or fewer allowed. However, he was tagged by Marcell Ozuna for a solo home run in the second inning to mark Lambert's fifth consecutive outing giving up a long ball. Over his last four appearances (23 innings), Lambert owns a 3.52 ERA to go along with a 17:3 K:BB. He's tentatively lined up to take on the Diamondbacks in Arizona for his next start.... See More ... Rockies' Peter Lambert: Allows two homers in no-decision
Lambert did not factor into the decision Thursday, allowing two runs on four hits and one walk over five innings against the Rays. He struck out six. Lambert got taken deep by Luke Raley on a hanging four-seamer to lead off the bottom of the second and was again victimized by the outfielder in the fourth, this time on a triple, before the latter came around to score a second time. Those would be the only two runs allowed by Lambert on the afternoon as he made it through at least five innings for the third consecutive start. The right-hander has allowed at least one home run in each of his last four starts and now carries a 5.19 ERA in August. On a positive note, he's issued just one walk in each of his last three outings, striking out 15 over that stretch.... See More ... See Less -
Rockies' Peter Lambert: Turns in quality start
Lambert (2-4) allowed three runs on seven hits and a walk while striking out four over six innings, taking the loss Saturday versus the Dodgers. Given the quality of the opponent and the fact he gave up all three runs over the first two innings, Lambert was lucky to emerge with a quality start, his second of the season. The right-hander has compiled a 5.46 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and 51:23 K:BB through 59.1 innings over 20 appearances (six starts). He was shaky in his first two outings of August and remains a risky option in fantasy given his home park, where he's expected to make his next start versus the lowly White Sox.... See More ... Rockies' Peter Lambert: Slips up in fourth inning
Lambert (2-3) allowed five runs on four hits and three walks while striking out four over 3.2 innings to take the loss Monday versus the Brewers. Lambert held his own over the first three innings, but it all fell apart in the fourth. He's given up nine runs over his last eight innings while taking a pair of losses in his last two starts. The right-hander has a 5.57 ERA, 1.44 WHIP and 47:22 K:BB through 53.1 innings over 19 appearances (five starts) this season. Lambert remains in the rotation despite his poor performance since the Rockies have no better options available. He's projected to face the Dodgers on the road this weekend.... See More ... Rockies' Peter Lambert: Logs quality start
Lambert did not factor into the decision Wednesday, allowing one unearned run on three hits and one walk over six innings against Washington. He struck out two. Lambert more than held his own Wednesday, limiting the Nationals to just one unearned run on the afternoon while notching his first quality start of the season. The right-hander produced three 1-2-3 innings and needed only 78 pitches to get through six frames. He has not allowed an earned run over his last 14 innings of work (spanning three appearances) and lowered his season ERA to 4.76 with Wednesday's performance.... See More ... See Less -
Rockies' Peter Lambert: Recalled from Triple-A
Lambert was recalled Tuesday from Triple-A Albuquerque. Lambert had posted a 3.68 ERA and 5:4 K:BB through 7.1 innings (three starts) this season at the Triple-A level. He'll presumably operate in a long relief with the Rockies as he makes his way back to the MLB level for the first time since 2021.... See More ... See Less -
Rockies' Peter Lambert: Sent down to Triple-A
Lambert was optioned to Triple-A Albuquerque by the Rockies on Sunday. Lambert will begin the year in Triple-A after missing the majority of the last two seasons with injuries, including Tommy John surgery in 2020. The right-hander will have his innings limited to begin the campaign, but he could be a rotation option for Colorado by the time 2023 comes to a close.... See More ... See Less -
Rockies' Peter Lambert: Innings to be limited early
Lambert (elbow) will have his innings capped to begin the 2023 season, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports. Lambert told Harding that this is the first time since he underwent Tommy John surgery in 2020 that he feels ready to contribute to the pitching staff. He's expected to receive a normal workload during the Cactus League, but then will be on strict limits for the beginning of 2023. Lambert showed promise as a prospect, but there's too much volatility to consider him a potential fantasy option to begin the year.... See More ... See Less -
Rockies' Peter Lambert: Throws two innings
Lambert (forearm) threw two scoreless innings Sunday, allowing one hit and one walk in a rehab outing with Triple-A Albuquerque. Lambert has made two appearances with Albuquerque, combining to throw three innings. He was sidelined while recovering from Tommy John surgery for much of 2021 but did return to throw 5.2 frames. However, Lambert has been on the injured list early in 2022 with forearm inflammation, and once activated he should either fill a bullpen role in Colorado or remain a starter at Albuquerque.... See More ... See Less -
Rockies' Peter Lambert: Resumes throwing
Lambert (forearm) has resumed throwing, Danielle Allentuck of The Denver Gazette reports. Lambert has been dealing with elbow pain since the start of spring training, and he's on the 10-day injured list as a precautionary measure to begin the regular season. The right-hander was expected to be on a pitch count in 2022 after missing most of last year while recovering from Tommy John surgery, so it's unlikely that his absence will impact his availability for this season overall. However, it's not yet clear when Lambert will be able to return to game action.... See More ... See Less
