Giants' Darius Slayton: In concussion protocol
Coach Brian Daboll said Monday that Slayton is in the concussion protocol, Patricia Traina of SI.com reports.
Slayton secured three of four targets for 27 yards while playing 72 percent of offensive snaps during Sunday's 28-6 loss to the Vikings, and he'll now need to fully clear the league's five-step concussion protocol before suiting up again. The speedster is entrenched as a starter in three-receiver sets alongside Malik Nabers and Wan'Dale Robinson. If he's unavailable Week 2 versus the Commanders, Jalin Hyatt could get an opportunity to step up as the No. 3 WR.

Giants' Darius Slayton: Leading receiver Saturday
Slayton caught all three of his targets for a team-high 59 yards in Saturday's 28-10 preseason loss to the Texans.
The speedster quickly reforged his connection with Daniel Jones in the quarterback's first game action since he tore his ACL in Week 9 of last season, hauling in a 44-yard strike in the second quarter that nearly went for a touchdown, although Slayton was ruled down at the one-yard line. The 27-year-old has led the Giants in receiving yards in four of the last five seasons despite never having an 800-yard campaign, and while that honor is expected to pass to rookie Malik Nabers in 2024, Slayton should still have a big role in the team's passing game.

Giants' Darius Slayton: Limited in practice
Coach Brian Daboll said Friday that Slayton is "tight" and won't be a full practice participant, Dan Duggan of The Athletic reports.
Slayton reportedly was limited Thursday, and he previously dealt with an undisclosed injury during June minicamp. It doesn't sound like anything serious, but perhaps the Giants will provide more details if Slayton isn't back at full strength next week.

It seems the injury Slayton suffered during June minicamp wasn't anything serious. He led the Giants in receiving yards four of his first five seasons, but without ever reaching 800 yards in a campaign. While Slayton still projects as a starter, the Giants hope sixth overall pick Malik Nabers will give them a legitimate No. 1 receiver for the first time since Odell Beckham's prime.

Giants' Darius Slayton: On track for training camp
Coach Brian Daboll said Wednesday he expects Slayton (undisclosed) to be ready for the start of training camp late July, Dan Duggan of The Athletic reports.
Slayton suffered an undisclosed injury at Tuesday's minicamp practice, but it doesn't appear the Giants are overly concerned about his health. Slayton is positioned for a starting gig in New York's wide receiver corps, alongside rookie first-round addition Malik Nabers, plus incumbent Wan'Dale Robinson, who should be more effective now that he's another year removed from his ACL tear.

Giants' Darius Slayton: Leaves practice with injury
Slayton (undisclosed) departed Tuesday's practice at mandatory minicamp early due to an apparent injury, Ralph Vacchiano of Fox Sports reports.
Slayton appeared to sustain an injury after colliding with a teammate, but he was able to walk off the field under his own power. The 27-year-old remains in position to handle a starting role for the Giants, though rookie phenom Malik Nabers is likely the clear No. 1, so the Giants' offense can ill afford to have Slayton miss any time. With tight end Darren Waller having now officially retired, New York is lacking for depth behind Nabers, Slayton and third-year pro Wan'Dale Robinson. If Slayton is sidelined, more reps will open up for Jalin Hyatt, Allen Robinson and Isaiah McKenzie.

Giants' Darius Slayton: Gets incentives added to contract
Slayton showed up to OTAs this week after the Giants added $650,000 of incentives to his contract, ESPN's Jordan Raanan reports.
The 27-year-old is entering the second season of a two-year, $12 million contract, and while he might have been hoping for an extension or additional guaranteed money, it seems he'll settle for the boosted incentives. Slayton has led the Giants in receiving yards in four of his five NFL seasons, topping 700 yards each time without ever getting to 800. He'll likely be one of the team's top three WRs in 2024, along with sixth overall pick Malik Nabers and slot man Wan'Dale Robinson. Of the three, Slayton is least likely to draw a large number of targets, as he's never seen passes on a large percentage of his routes even when playing a lot of snaps in offenses with subpar receiving alternatives.

Slayton is working toward a hopeful contract extension with the Giants, but he's on the field for voluntary workouts at OTAs. The 2019 fifth-round pick still appears slated for a starting gig, though rookie first-rounder Malik Nabers should be the top man in this wide receiver corps, with Jalin Hyatt and Wan'Dale Robinson also in the mix. Slayton appears fully healthy after having dealt with a thumb injury down the stretch in 2023.
