  • Texans' Joe Mixon: Tending to hamstring issue

Mixon missed the Texans' last two practices with a tight hamstring, Aaron Wilson of KPRC2 Houston reports. "Joe will be fine," Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans said. "Joe may miss a little time, but he'll be fine."

Wilson's report provides clarity to what had been previously been an undisclosed injury for Mixon. The Texans aren't concerned about the injury, and the decision to hold Mixon out appears to be precautionary. The team signed Cam Akers to add depth to the position group while Mixon is sidelined.

  • Texans' Jared Wayne: Reverts to IR

Wayne (undisclosed) reverted to the Texans' injured reserve Tuesday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.

Wayne was waived by the team with an injury designation Monday and he will now stick around Houston on the IR. The wide receiver is now set to miss the entirety of the 2024 campaign while nursing his undisclosed injury.

  • Texans' Jalen Pitre: Getting work at nickel corner

Pitre told reporters after practice Tuesday that he has been playing snaps at nickel corner during training camp and OTAs, DJ Bien-Aime of ESPN.com reports.

Pitre had played nickel corner at Baylor, and he noted that "it's been fun to play some nickel here in training camp, in OTAs, and I'm all in on the process," per Jonathan Alexander and Jon Poorman of The Houston Chronicle. In his rookie season in 2022, Pitre led the Texans with 141 total tackles across 17 regular-season games, but he saw those numbers dip in 2023, finishing with 84 tackles (58 solo), five passes defended and one forced fumble over 15 regular-season games. Pitre struggled at times to adjust to a new scheme in 2023, but his willingness to play nickel corner, like he did in college, should provide him comfort in his second year under head coach DeMeco Ryans.

  • Texans' D'Angelo Ross: Resumes practicing

The Texans activated Ross (undisclosed) off the active/PUP list Monday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.

Ross missed Houston's first three days of training camp while on the PUP list, but he's now back in action after passing his physical. Across 13 appearances with the team last season, Ross solidified himself as a regular contributor on special teams.

  • Texans' Del'Shawn Phillips: Comes off PUP list

The Texans activated Phillips (shoulder) off the active/PUP list Monday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.

Phillips passed his physical and is back at practice for Houston. He projects to reprise a depth role at linebacker while contributing on special teams during the 2024 campaign.

  • Texans' Jared Wayne: Dropped by Houston

The Texans waived Wayne (undisclosed) with an injury designation Monday, Jonathan M. Alexander of the Houston Chronicle reports.

In a corresponding move, the Texans inked veteran running back Cam Akers. The nature and severity of Wayne's injury is unclear at this point, but assuming he clears waivers, he'll revert to injured reserve, meaning he'd miss the entire season barring an injury settlement.

  • Texans' Joe Mixon: Missing practice

Texans coach DeMeco Ryans said Monday that Mixon (undisclosed) will not practice and could miss a few days but "will be fine," Jonathan M. Alexander of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Mixon hasn't practiced the last two days, per DJ Bien-Aime of ESPN.com, but it doesn't appear that he's facing a long absence. It remains undisclosed whether Mixon is dealing with an illness or injury, or whether his absence is of a personal nature, but in the meantime Dameon Pierce figures to handle the bulk of the first-team reps, while Dare Ogunbowale, Jawhar Jordan and new backfield addition Cam Akers (Achilles) also could benefit from increased opportunities.

  • Texans' Cam Akers: Signs with Texans

Akers (Achilles) and the Texans agreed on a contract Sunday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.

Akers worked out for Houston on Sunday, and the team must've seen enough from the running back, inking him to a contract ahead of their training camp beginning Tuesday. The 25-year-old suffered the second Achilles tear of his career in November, and it's unclear how close he is to being ready for full contact at practice.
