Saints' Nephi Sewell: Unavailable to open season
Sewell (knee) was placed on the reserve/PUP list by the Saints on Tuesday.
Sewell is still working his way back from the torn ACL he suffered in Week 17 of the 2023 season and he'll be forced to miss at least the first four games of the 2024 campaign. The linebacker will be first eligible to return in Week 5 against Kansas City on Oct. 7.

Saints' Nephi Sewell: Starts camp on active/PUP
The Saints placed Sewell (knee) on the active/PUP list Thursday, Katherine Terrell of ESPN.com reports.
Sewell suffered a torn ACL in Week 17 last season and isn't yet 100 percent. Undrafted out of Utah in 2022, Sewell has appeared in 20 games for the Saints over the last two seasons, mainly focusing on special teams. He'll likely fill a similar role in 2024.

Saints' Nephi Sewell: Still on mend from surgery
Saints head coach Dennis Allen said in February that Sewell (knee) isn't expected to be ready for training camp, Katherine Terrell of ESPN.com reports.
Given that Sewell tore his ACL in Week 17 last season, it's not surprising that the linebacker will be eased back from surgery. Once healthy, the 25-year-old -- who recorded 15 tackles in 16 regular-season outings in 2023 -- is in line to reprise his depth/special-teams role with New Orleans.

Saints' Nephi Sewell: Officially moves to IR
Sewell (knee) was placed on injured reserve Friday.
The 25-year-old linebacker out of Utah tore his ACL in the Saints' Week 17 win over the Buccaneers, so it's no surprise that he's shifted over to IR. Sewell has appeared in 16 games for New Orleans this season, recording 15 total tackles, including two tackles for loss and forcing one fumble while playing 323 total snaps (57 defensive and 266 on special teams).

Saints' Nephi Sewell: Season ends early
Sewell suffered an ACL injury, which will require surgery, in the Saints' win over the Buccaneers on Sunday, Katherine Terrell of ESPN.com reports.
Sewell will now focus on prep for surgery, as opposed to New Orleans' Week 18 opponent, the Falcons. The Utah product's second NFL season will come to an end with 16 games played, 15 tackles (11 solo) and a forced fumble while mostly covering on special teams. The severity of the injury and what Sewell's recovery timeline might be isn't yet clear.

Saints' Nephi Sewell: Will not return
Sewell (knee) has been ruled out for the remainder of Sunday's game against the Buccaneers.
Sewell needed to be carted off of the field, although the severity of the injury is not yet known. The second-year pro has primarily worked on special teams this season, so his absence shouldn't impact the Saints' linebacker corps for the remainder of the contest.

Saints' Nephi Sewell: Plays well in first start
Sewell recorded eight tackles (five solo) in Sunday's 33-28 loss versus the Lions.
Week 13 was the first time Sewell played more than seven defensive snaps in a game as a pro (40), so he predictably also posted a career-high tackle total. The size of his role in Week 14 will still probably depend on the availability of 2021 second-rounder Pete Werner (oblique).

Saints' Nephi Sewell: Starting Week 13
Sewell likely will replace injured Pete Werner (oblique) on Sunday, which is expected to be his first career start, John Hendrix of SI.com reports.
The 24-year-old linebacker has appeared in 15 games over the course of his NFL career, logging six total tackles (all coming in 2023). Sewell has primarily been a special-teamer for New Orleans, playing only eight total defense snaps over the last two seasons. He'll have big shoes to fill in Week 13, as Werner ranks second on the Saints in total stops on the year (67).
