Tarasov has been downright atrocious in the preseason and has allowed 13 goals on 68 shots across three starts. Even though he opened training camp competing for the starting role, all signs point to Elvis Merzlikins opening the year in that role. Tarasov went 8-11-3 with a .908 save percentage and a 3.18 GAA in 24 regular-season appearances in 2023-24.

Per Dave Maetzold of Bally Sports Columbus, Tarasov (upper body) is still undergoing testing Saturday, according to coach Pascal Vincent.
Tarasov was shaken up Thursday versus the Islanders and was forced to leave the game in the second period after absorbing a hit to his head. His status is unknown at this time, but the Blue Jackets recalled Malcolm Subban from the minors on Friday. Look for Jet Greaves and Subban to split the starts on Saturday and Sunday if Tarasov is unable to play.

Tarasov exited Thursday's tilt against the Islanders after sustaining an upper-body injury. He won't return to the contest.
Tarasov stopped 13 of 15 shots in 17:53 of ice time before departing the game. Jet Greaves took over between the pipes for Columbus. The Blue Jackets were already missing goaltender Elvis Merzlikins due to a lower-body injury. If Merzlikins and Tarasov are forced to miss additional time, then the Blue Jackets will likely lean on Greaves.

What a game for Tarasov. The 25-year-old netminder frustrated Colorado all game, kicking aside the first 34 shots sent his way until finally being beat for the only Avalanche goal partway through the third frame. Tarasov may not be producing many wins -- he had only three in the month of March -- but he has only had a save percentage under .900 once over eight games that same span. The Blue Jackets host the Islanders on Thursday.

The Jackets netminder of the future played a strong game, but he was up against slim odds to win. The Blue Jackets are 0-10-5 in Pittsburgh since a 2-1 win Nov. 13, 2015. Yes, you read that right. Tarasov will be in the record books as the goalie who was in net when Evgeni Malkin hit the 20-goal mark for the 15th time in the NHL, and for being the twinetender in the game when Sidney Crosby reached 1,580 points which moved him into 11th in scoring in NHL history.

The only reason Tarasov didn't face over 50 shots was that the Golden Knights started slow. They made up for it over the final 40 minutes, giving the Blue Jackets little room to work with. Tarasov has allowed 14 goals over his last six appearances, going 2-2-1 in that span. For the season, the 24-year-old is at 7-10-3 with a 3.24 GAA and a .904 save percentage through 21 appearances. Tarasov turned aside 23 shots in Tuesday's 4-3 overtime loss to the Red Wings.
Columbus jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period and were still leading 3-2 late in the third, but Lucas Raymond banged home a rebound with 13 seconds left in regulation to tie things up. Patrick Kane then snuck one short side on Tarasov early in OT. The 24-year-old Tarasov is still enjoying a strong start to March, going 3-1-1 in six outings with a 2.21 GAA and .937 save percentage -- a sharp contrast to Elvis Merzlikins' 4.10 GAA and .865 save percentage in four March appearances.

Blue Jackets' Daniil Tarasov: Perfect in relief Tuesday
Tarasov stopped all 19 shots he faced after replacing Elvis Merzlikins early in the first period of Tuesday's 3-0 loss to the Canadiens. Merzlikins was credited with the defeat.
Columbus looked like they'd stayed on the plane, coming out completely flat and hanging Merzlikins out to dry to begin the game. The Jackets' defensive effort picked up after Tarasov took over, but their offense never solved Cayden Primeau. The 24-year-old Tarasov appears to have taken a firm hold of the top job for the Blue Jackets, allowing three goals or less in seven straight outings while posting a 2.09 GAA and .941 save percentage.
