Danforth (wrist) won't resume practicing just yet, but he's ready to begin stickhandling, Jeff Svoboda of the Blue Jackets' official site reports Wednesday.
Danforth is working his way back from offseason wrist surgery. He had 10 goals and 26 points in 71 contests last campaign. When healthy, Danforth is likely to serve in a middle-six capacity.

Blue Jackets' Yegor Chinakhov: Gearing up for season
Chinakhov is recovered from an upper-body injury and will be present for the start of training camp, per Jeff Svoboda of the Blue Jackets' official site Tuesday.
Chinakhov missed the final 17 contests of the 2023-24 regular season due to the injury. The 23-year-old appears to be well past that setback, and he also signed a two-year contract extension with Columbus this summer. Chinakhov should see power-play time while being firmly entrenched among the top-six forward group. The Russian winger has generated 56 points in 145 career outings as an NHLer.

Blue Jackets' Daniil Tarasov: Set for training camp
Tarasov (upper body) will be available for the start of training camp, the team announced Tuesday.
Tarasov posted a record of 8-11-3 with a 3.18 GAA and a .908 save percentage in 24 regular-season appearances before missing six straight contests to conclude the 2023-24 campaign due to an upper-body issue. He will compete with Elvis Merzlikins for playing time in the upcoming season.

Blue Jackets' James van Riemsdyk: Inks one-year deal
Van Riemsdyk signed a one-year, $900,000 contract with Columbus on Sunday, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reports.

Dumais won't play in the NHL Prospects Challenge this weekend because of a lower-body injury, Aaron Portzline of The Athletic reports Thursday.
Dumais had 16 goals and 47 points in 21 contests with QMJHL Halifax in 2023-24. If he's healthy, the 20-year-old should get a chance to play in the preseason, but he'll likely start the upcoming campaign with AHL Cleveland.

Blue Jackets' Johnny Gaudreau: Dies in tragic accident
Gaudreau, along with his brother Matthew, passed away Thursday after the two were struck by a suspected drunk driver while bicycling in New Jersey, ESPN.com reports.
Gaudreau was an elite collegiate player at Boston College, winning a national championship in 2012 with the Eagles and following that up with the Hobey Baker Award as the nation's top college player in 2014. Selected by the Flames in the fourth round of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft, Gaudreau would spend nine seasons in Calgary, racking up 210 goals and 399 assists in 602 outings before joining the Blue Jackets ahead of the 2022-23 campaign. All told, the 2017 Lady Byng Memorial Trophy winner compiled 743 points in 763 regular-season contests while adding another 33 points in 42 postseason outings. Gaudreau leaves behind his wife, Meredith, and their two kids, Noa and Johnny.

Blue Jackets' Cayden Lindstrom: Dealing with back injury
Lindstrom is recovering from a back injury that will reportedly limit his participation in training camp, Aaron Portzline of The Athletic reports Tuesday.
Lindstrom was selected by Columbus with the fourth overall pick in the 2024 NHL Entry Draft. Even without the back injury, it was unlikely that the 18-year-old center was going to make the team straight out of training camp, and he will likely return to juniors for the upcoming campaign once healthy. This back problem will no doubt further decrease Lindstrom's chances of making the Opening Night roster.

Blue Jackets' Cole Sillinger: Grabs two-year deal
Sillinger agreed to terms on a two-year, $4.5 million contract with Columbus on Wednesday.
Sillinger bounced back from a disappointing sophomore campaign, having recorded just 11 points in 64 games in 2022-23, with a 32-point 2023-24 season that included a career-best 19 helpers. The 21-year-old Columbus native is poised to remain in a middle-six role heading into the upcoming year and should be capable of continuing to put up 30-plus points in addition to 100-plus hits.

Blue Jackets' Jordan Harris: Acquired via trade
Harris was traded to the Blue Jackets from the Canadiens in exchange for Patrik Laine and a 2026 second-round pick Monday.
Harris saw action in 56 games for Montreal last year in which he notched three goals, 11 helpers and 43 shots on net while averaging 17:28 of ice time. With Columbus, the young blueliner could move into a top-four role, which could set him up to cross the 20-point threshold for the first time in his three-year NHL career. Meanwhile, Jake Christiansen likely falls out of the lineup with the addition of Harris, while Denton Mateychuk may be in line to begin the year in the AHL.

Johnson will be ready for the start of training camp after recovering from shoulder surgery. The fifth overall selection of the 2021 NHL Draft looks to be a fixture in the top-six forward group for Columbus going forward. The 21-year-old notched 16 points in 42 contests before incurring his shoulder injury last season. Overall in his three-year NHL career, Johnson has 59 points in 130 games.

Marchenko signed a three-year, $3.85 million AAV extension with the Blue Jackets on Sunday.
Marchenko has produced back-to-back 20-goal seasons and has established himself as a key member of Columbus' top six. The 24-year-old totaled 23 goals and 42 points while averaging 16:25 of ice time through 78 games during the 2023-24 campaign. If he maintains a role on the top line, he could see a production bump while playing alongside Sean Monahan and Johnny Gaudreau.

Johnson (shoulder) signed a three-year, $5.4 million contract with the Blue Jackets on Saturday.
Johnson was a restricted free agent this summer after finishing his entry-level contract. He had six goals and 16 points in 42 appearances with Columbus in 2023-24. Johnson didn't play past Feb. 28 due to a torn labrum that resulted in surgery. His initial recovery timetable of six months should make him available for the start of training camp, assuming there are no setbacks.

Laine (personal) was cleared by the NHL/NHLPA Player Assistance Program on Friday, Aaron Portzline of The Athletic reports.
Laine entered the program in late January after missing 17 games with a fractured clavicle. Laine only played in 18 regular-season games with the Blue Jackets in 2023-24, scoring six goals and adding three assists. He has requested a trade out of Columbus and should find a new home before the start of training camp.

Blue Jackets' Jet Greaves: Re-signs with Columbus
Greaves signed a two-year, $1.625 million contract with the Blue Jackets on Friday, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reports.
Year 1 is a two-way pact, while Year 2 is a one-way agreement. Greaves will earn $800,000 during the 2024-25 campaign at the NHL level and $825,000 the following season. The 23-year-old netminder posted a record of 3-6-0 with a 3.49 GAA and a .908 save percentage in nine appearances with Columbus in 2023-24. He will battle Elvis Merzlikins and Daniil Tarasov at training camp for a roster spot, but he could start the upcoming season in the minors.

Christiansen was headed for an arbitration case but appears to have found some middle ground with the Jackets. Given the two-way nature of his deal, fantasy players should be expecting the blueliner to split his time between the NHL and AHL, at best. With just 44 NHL games under his belt, Christiansen won't offer much in terms of fantasy value any time soon.

Sawchenko signed a one-year, two-way contract with Columbus on Sunday.
Sawchenko posted a 4-1-0 record with a 2.12 GAA and a .924 save percentage in six regular-season appearances for AHL Abbotsford in 2023-24. He also went 2-4-0 with a 2.96 GAA and an .898 save percentage in six outings during the playoffs with Vancouver's top minor-league affiliate. The 26-year-old netminder will probably spend most, if not all, of 2024-25 in the AHL.

Johnson had a seven-year stint with the Blue Jackets earlier in his career, which accounted for most of his most successful seasons. At 37 years old, it's unlikely he returns to his former glory on offense. Instead, Johnson will likely serve as a veteran leader for the Blue Jackets' young roster, and he's expected to fill a third-pairing role.
